For 14 years, Island Family
Magazine has been Hawaii’s
leading source for monthly
parenting information. It was
born out of the dreams of a
local mother, Carmen
Shagam. Carmen loved
Hawaii families and wanted to
help them, by providing top-quality
parenting resources.

Last month, Carmen passed the responsibility for the magazine
to PacificBasin Communications, which also
publishes HONOLULU Magazine, Hawaii Business,
Hawaii Home+Remodeling, and HAWAI‘I Magazine.
Carmen will stay involved with Island Family, but I
have the honor of being its new editor and publisher.
It’s a humbling task, and I intend to pour the same love
and effort into the magazine as Carmen did.
I am a local mother of twin girls, now almost 6 years
old. Like many of you, I want to be well informed so
that my husband and I can raise strong, healthy, smart
and secure children.
I plan to take the journey of parenthood along with
you, getting insights from other parents and grandparents,
along with professional guidance from physicians,
child psychologists and educators.
In addition to parenting advice, Island Family will continue
to provide you with keiki-friendly activities, shopping
ideas, and great things to enjoy and see throughout
our beautiful Islands. Don’t worry, we’ll continue the
fun contests and giveaways for parents and kids!
